About This Project: Prayer For The Living
In November of 2001 Victoria and I were invited to participate in a benefit for one of the firehouses involved in the 911 attacks. Seven men were killed from this particular station, Engine 219 and Ladder 105, one of them with 10 children. I wrote a song called Prayer For The Living that was used to start the benefit, and we were humbled to have particpated with all the celebrities and fans who raised 40 thousand dollars that day for those brave men.
Now, so many years later, we see the tragedy that has occurred in Aurora, Colorado with the death and injuries of the innocent at the hands of what may be described as a highly localized and individual act of terror.
We felt the desire to share this song with anyone who cares to listen, whose message of honesty, pain and healing seems somehow sadly appropriate in many respects to the losses of the past. We hold no illusions that a simple little song can do much but be a shared voice in the suffering.
It is because of the response we received in 2001 from listeners who found solace in this song that we hope some small sense of comfort may be found in it during this present time.
